Joe Averill, Jr.

Joe Averill, Jr.
Chief Executive Officer

Joe Averill, Jr. began his building journey in Dallas, Texas during his high school years. Having been exposed to the building trade though his father, Joe Averill, Sr., who was a custom builder in the area, he began working on a framing crew that subcontracted work to Dallas builders. He worked on this framing crew during high school vacations and continued working throughout college as he pursued his BBA in General Business from The University of Texas at Austin. Upon receiving his degree in 1975, Joe returned to Dallas and continued on the same framing crew for the next year. This framing crew was not an ordinary crew as the foreman had a Masters Degree in Mathematics and the other members of the crew also held college degrees. This training afforded Joe the ability to construct all of his projects with mathematical soundness and accuracy. During this apprenticeship, Joe benefited from hands-on training in the construction of large, luxury homes and mentoring by these framers, who were among the most knowledgeable framers in the north Dallas area. This mentorship, in combination with his BBA, provides Joe with the expertise and ability to perform the actual layout work of each clients' home. Joe is one of but a few contractors in the state of Texas that can provide this expertise.

In November of 1976, Joe relocated to the Valley because opportunities were abundant in this area where there was a need for knowledgeable, quality framers. He began running a framing crew that serviced many builders in the Valley. Then, in 1977, Joe Averill, Sr. relocated to the Valley; and, Joe Averill, Jr. and his father teamed together to become Averill Builders. Joe led all field site operations while his father handled all office operations until his death in 1984.

Since the establishment of Averill Builders, Joe Averill, Jr. broadened his expertise and developed an eye for fine detail as he became involved in every aspect of custom building. As the respect of his peers and praises of satisfied customers grew, Joe Averill, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, decided to incorporate in 1989. Thus, the birth of Averill Builders, Inc., a company whose market focus is the construction of luxury homes in excess of $250,000. Mr. Averill's expertise, attention to detail, and ability to and insistence on doing things correctly have since earned him the status of premier builder in the McAllen, Texas area.

Averill Builders, Inc. remains under the direction of Joe and Nancy Averill. In 1997, Averill Builders, Inc. constructed custom homes ranging from 2,500 to 11,000 square feet under roof which corresponds to homes valued at $250,000 to $1,600,000. Each project that is undertaken demands and receives the continuing attention of Joe Averill, Jr.. Mr. Averill's attention to fine detail and demand for excellence have elevated the standards of custom homes in the South Texas area, exceeding those of metropolitan areas such as Dallas and Houston.

Nancy Averill

Nancy Averill
Chief Financial Officer

Nancy Averill is a native of McAllen, Texas where she attended McAllen High School. She furthered her education by pursuing her BBA at The University of Texas - Pan American. Nancy graduated Cum Laude from UTPA in 1983 with a BBA, majoring in Accounting. Prior to undertaking the accounting for Averill Builders, Nancy served as an Accounting Department Head, on an Audit Staff, in an Accounting and Tax Department, and obtained her license as a Chemical Dependency Counselor and practiced in several counseling offices.

Upon the formation of Averill Builders, Inc., Nancy became a part owner and Corporate Officer. Her responsibilities as Chief Financial Officer consist of obtaining financial commitments and managing the overall financing and accounting operations of the company, including computer operations, cash management, accounting records and reports, financial analysis, and general office administration. Nancy has gained recognition for her fiscal management skills for custom builders and is often called upon for advice by other builders.

Nancy prides herself in delivering accurate, timely financial statements to clients and financial institutions. These reports allow clients and banking institutions to be aware of the progress and process of their building project. It is important to Nancy that clients are informed about and comfortable with the financial expenditures that are incurred. Nancy has put in place a bi-monthly draw system for Averill Builders, Inc. in which the client is informed at the beginning of the project as to when each draw will be made. The additional time invested by Averill Builders, Inc. in doing this allows clients to be continuously informed about their financial expenditures. Of equal importance, she realizes that the client is making an enormous investment and this draw system allows for conservative use of the client's resources.

Just as her husband's expertise in building has built the company's reputation, so has Nancy's contributions in the daily running of the finances and obligations. Mrs. Averill's managerial and accounting expertise allow for smooth and timely operations that receive rave reviews from both clients and the banking industry.

Allen Gray

Allen Gray
Project Manager

In 1995, a Project Manager position was created within the Team of Averill Builders, Inc. in response to the need for added personnel in meeting client needs. This position required a loyal, detail-oriented individual who was dedicated to excellence and who understood the needs of the Averill Builders, Inc. clients. Allen Gray was hand-picked by Joe and Nancy Averill to take on this role and their responsibilities.

The Averill's had an advantage in this decision in that they knew Allen well; they had raised him and watched him grow. They had been impressed with the dedication that their son had shown to his previous employers. He had begun working at the Embassy Suites at the age of sixteen and remained a model employee throughout the next five years. During this time, he also attended The University of Texas - Pan American. So, when Joe and Nancy were in need of another team player, the choice was clear - Allen.

Allen is responsible for scheduling the subcontractors, material suppliers, and inspectors on a number of projects, a quite complicated task. He organizes a project to establish a work flow and coordinates the various complex aspects of the construction process. Allen ensures that the construction site is safe for subcontractors and others who visit the site and serves as the field representative for Averill Builders, Inc.

Allen enjoys getting to know the clients and understanding their needs and desires regarding their home. He derives a great deal of satisfaction from bringing projects to completion and being part of a Team that is dedicated to realizing the highest standards of excellence in fine homes.
